OLD SCHOOL IS THE NEW "NEW SCHOOL"
There are a million websites out there for guys with zillions of dollars and units where you can still find toilet paper on a regular basis. Here you will find what works for me. I have limited experience. I am by no means an operator, most likely if your reading this you aren’t either. This set up works for me and my mission set. It’s a reference. I believe if you buy quality kit you cry once, buy shit and you cry over and over. The problem with buying your own stuff on the conventional side of the house is that someone will always have a problem with whatever you do. I don’t even bother getting my own body armor; it’s not even worth the fight.
KIT
Chest Rig - I use one that can be hung with fastek clips based on the mission. I have it in rrrranger green (the new OD). It worked for my grandfather slaying the hun, it worked for the dad killing cubans and it works for me I have seen alot of combat but i havent "seen" alot of combat. I also have something called "SPRAY PAINT" its a new thing... amazing.
Mayflower Recce Chest Rig
The Recce Chest Rig (HK417) is designed as a long range, long duration reconnaissance vest to be used with the HK417 platform it works just fine with 5.56mm NATO standard mags. To accommodate the increased weight this chest rig is made of a combination of 500D and 1000D materials. This chest rig is designed to be ambidextrous and carry the following: 6 ea HK417 magazines (3 open top, 3 in flapped pouches), two large GP pouches provided with a full flap (removable), and a flap and divider (removable) allowing an inter-team radio (PRC-152/PRC-148) with a BA 5590 or similar sized battery as the power source to be carried on either side, two small GP pouches sized for a camera, GPS, flash bang, mini-frag or similar sized items. The H style harness is padded and adjustable for width (horizontal portion of the H) for use with or without armor and has elastic and webbing vertically spaced on the front for cable/antenna management, hydration tube routing and the mounting of additional small items .
SET-UP
I run a 5590 adapter made by TSE RECON. www.tserecon.com. The homemade antenna is just RG58 a TNC connector with some simple soldering and cutting covered with .50 inch tubular nylon.
I will review the Blackheart International antenna on a seperate post. Long story short it works and its out of the way.
Garmin GPSmap 62s is the heat. It accepts maps overlayed on google earth, you can download all of the maps DOD has (unclass) using the link inside the useful downloads sections (you need a CAC card).
This works for me, it might not work for you.
Tie everything down. Tie everything down. Tie everything down. These tie downs work for me, they may not work for you. Im tired of putting end of line bowlines on everything if you get my drift.
I always carry a camera everywhere I go when on mission (CYOA and every soldier is a sensor a picture is worth 1000 words)
I attached the old school strobe pouch with a sewing machine a good needle and some strong thread.
All in all I like this setup, I have been using it for a while. I like using a rig that is not molle because it forces me to just take what I need (onces = pounds). This rig is light and well made. I have read elsewhere that it pairs well with the ATS hydro carrier, im going to have to mosey on over to ATS sometime and try it out. The guys at Mayflower are on point, I have emailed them in the past and recieved return emails for just about every question that I have asked.
If i have MOLLE I would just keep stacking and stacking and before I know it I would be on a motivational poster.
